Spring is finally upon us and with the weather improving and days getting longer, if you’re already looking forward to getting out again in your motorhome, camper or caravan, it’s the perfect time to start planning your time away. Whether it’s a trip for two or the whole family are invited, we’ve rounded up our favourite touring routes and locations from around the UK, to inspire your adventures this summer.
Located in the heart of England just east of Manchester in Derbyshire, the UK’s first National Park is relatively accessible, wherever you begin your journey from. With its green rolling moorland, imposing limestone crags and picturesque villages to discover, it won’t disappoint on the scenery, as well as having plenty on offer from stately homes and castles to walking and cycling to explore from your campsite.
This route is the perfect way to explore the West country through North Devon and Cornwall, where you’ll discover pretty fishing villages, fantastic coastal views and surfing spots, as well as popular tourist attractions like the Eden Project and Tintagel Castle, the supposed birthplace of King Arthur. This area is a big favourite for families in the school holidays, so if you’re after a quieter experience then consider visiting out of peak season if you can. But if you are travelling with children then make sure to pack your wetsuits and buckets and spades, because this journey is packed with beaches perfect for water sports and family fun.
Voted as the second best coastline in the world by National Geographic, Pembrokeshire boasts over 50 beaches. Whether you fancy the vibrant atmosphere to be found in the seaside town of Tenby, the adventure of coasteering or exploring the wonderful wildlife found along this coastline, there is plenty on offer for the whole family. With the freedom of your caravan or motorhome, you could even venture inland to the Brecon Beacons for cycling, walking, waterfalls and mountains.
As the name suggests, this route is just over 500 miles (516 to be precise) around the coast of Scotland, offering stunning views of rugged beaches and coastline. The route begins and ends in Inverness, and does require a minimum of a week to comfortably cover the distance, but the investment is well worth it for the fantastic stops along the way, including nature reserves, distilleries and the UK’s most northerly point at John o’ Groats. While there is less in the way of family activities, this is the perfect route for those looking for a romantic adventure surrounded by breath-taking scenery.
These are just some of our favourite locations to explore, but there are too many more fantastic places to mention around UK just waiting to be discovered, so it’s always worth doing your own research. Whether you prefer the wild coasts, the deserted moors and tors or of the national parks or access to cities and activities, you’re bound to find it amongst the many opportunities available to you with the freedom of a caravan, motorhome or camper to take you there.
